PENDLETON WOOLEN MILLS ENJOYS E-MARKETING SUCCESS

Pendleton Woolen Mills, internationally known for its high-quality woolen garments and blankets, recently enjoyed its most successful email marketing campaign to date. The company based its strategy on the ideas that loyal Pendleton customers jump at the chance to snap up heavily discounted merchandise, and that email marketing is the swiftest and most effective way to communicate with them.
On August 30, Pendleton launched its "Last Chance Summer Sale," which offered an additional 20 percent discount on already half-priced men's and women's clothing. This type of campaign was a first for Pendleton. Peter V. Bishop, manager of catalog and Internet sales for Pendleton, said, "This was our most successful campaign to date. Why? We run a regular-price business for most of the year. Our customers know that when we mark down prices, it's to clear inventory, and when it's gone, it's gone. Email is a perfect medium for communicating time-sensitive offers, because timing of delivery is so exact."
Pendleton selected iPost, a leading email service provider (ESP), to deploy the campaign. First, Pendleton used iPost's email integration with Omniture web analytics to check sales from prior e-campaigns to help them decide how to set up the "Last Chance Summer Sale" links, and when to send the email for the best response.
Then iPost helped Pendleton with delivery - more than 99 percent of mail was successfully received by subscribers. iPost's campaign reporting showed that about 33 percent of the recipients clicked on the "Last Chance Summer Sale/Extra 20% Off" link, and that the majority of click activity happened within three hours of the start of the mailing.
