iPost CANcomply Will Allow Companies to Manage Their CAN-SPAM Liability
NOVATO, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ – iPost today announced it will release its CAN-SPAM compliance solution, CANcomply, in early March 2004. This new product provides quick and effective control of outbound email allowing companies to manage their CAN-SPAM liability.
CANcomply is a combination of email processing software and secure centralized database technology that addresses compliance problems for all email users in an enterprise.

New Email Liability - The CAN-SPAM Act
Recently, the Federal government passed new legislation called the CAN-SPAM Act that enacts wide-reaching new regulations of commercial email. While aimed at spammers, this legislation presents significant compliance challenges for all those operating businesses in the US.
As of January 1, 2004, any company, individual, officer or employee who sends a commercial email message must comply with the new regulations or face severe civil and possible criminal liability. Commercial email as defined by this new regulation is any message that includes any sales, marketing, or other business related communications – i.e., an email by a sales, marketing, business development employee to an existing or prospective customer or partner. This presents a significant regulatory problem for corporations of all sizes. Large corporations are most significantly threatened, since they have the financial assets to pay significant judgments that may be levied against them under CAN-SPAM.
