Default Sending Settings

Default mailing settings let you pre-define the properties applied to every new email, helping you save time and maintain consistent sends

Every default listed here can still be changed on an individual email if needed.

Character Set

This controls the text encoding used for your emails, which affects how special characters display — especially for non-Latin languages. Available options are:

  • UTF-8
  • US English (ASCII)
  • Western Europe
  • Central Europe
  • Chinese (Traditional)
  • Chinese (Simplified)
  • Korean
  • Japanese

Automated Subject Testing Options

The following settings control how A/B subject line testing works by default.

  • Measurement Interval: how long the system waits before automatically sending the better-performing subject line to the rest of your audience. “Better-performing” is measured by Response Rate, a combination of open and click performance.
  • Split Test Size: the percentage of your audience that receives the initial A/B subject line test. The system randomly selects which subscribers get each test version.

Email Frequency

This setting suppresses sending to contacts who already received an email from you within a set number of days — helpful for avoiding over-messaging your audience.

Header

Choose from one of the following options for the default header that appears at the top of of your emails.

  • Default Header: the system-default header.
  • None: no header is used.
  • Custom Header: use a custom Paste HTML header created under Emails > Content > Headers & Footers.

Footer

Choose from one of the following options for the default footer that appears at the bottom of of your emails.

  • Default Footer: the system-default header.
  • None: no header is used.
  • Custom Footer: use a custom Paste HTML header created under Emails > Content > Headers & Footers.

Advanced Options: Throttling

By default, all messages are sent as soon as possible once a send starts. If you'd rather spread delivery out over time, you can set a default throttle that applies to every send.

The minimum throttle allowed is 200 messages per hour.

To set a default throttle:

  1. Toggle on the Throttle option to enable the configuration.
  2. Enter the number of messages that should be sent and the number of hours it should take to send them.
  3. Save your changes.
